DC33 Mini Badge

Regular price $20.00 $9.99 Sale

This Mini Badge was an exclusive offering for DEF CON 33. A limited number of remaining units are available here online for anyone who missed getting one.  Thank you for your support!

Educational and Collectable

For the past decade, HackerBox has distributed various "learn to solder" kits at DEF CON in the form of a Mini Badge (aka Badge Buddy).  The Mini Badges feature a themed PCB and some blinkie LEDs.  They are cool, but not excessively challenging for an introduction to soldering.

Easy Assembly

  • The 6-pin slide-switch can be oriented in either direction
  • The coin cell clip is positioned to match the outline on the PCB
  • Each of the three LEDs must be oriented with the long pin in the "+" hole
  • While each LED will work in any location, the suggested color styling is:
    • RED on the antenna tower
    • BLUE on the ground dish
    • RGB (CLEAR) on the satellite in the sky

Demo Video:  Soldering the DC33 Mini Badge goes exactly as demonstrated in the DC31 Mini Badge Video.  Also, our DC28 Learn To Solder Class shows assembly of an earlier Mini Badge (fast-forward to 29:00 to jump right into the soldering).

Soldering Tools: Check out the HackerBox Soldering Workshop to get your own set of soldering tools along with four practice projects to develop your soldering skills.

Embedded NFC TAG: The DC33 Mini Badge features a 13.56MHz NTAG215 RFID.  Most mobile phones support NFC functionally to read and write 13.56 MHz RFID tags with a simple app.  For example, a lot of folks use the NFC Tools app from wak dev.  It is available for both iOS and Android.  It can store some contact information (as little or as much as you wish to share) into the NFC tag.  Then you can quickly tap to share that information with anyone you'd like to stay in touch with.  This video demonstrates how to easily write whatever information you wish into the NFC tag. If you're interested to take things a step further and create your own vCard, check out this video.
